Origin/meaning

The first quarter shows the arms of the Dominicans, the order to which the bishop belonged. St. Peter is the patron saint of the bishop. His hands are bound, which refers to the church of Sint Petrus Banden in Venray (Netherlands), where he was baptised.

The third quarter shows symbols for peace (dove) and justice (scales). The fourth shows a green field for hope, and a crown for Christ and a Heliotrope flower (Heliotropium sp.), which always follows the rays of the sun. It is a symbol of devotion.
