The three spruce cones are taken from the arms of the Chapter of St. Omaars, which owned the village already in the 7th century and kept most of the rights until 1793. In 1604 part of the rights were sold to the castellany of Veurne. The arms of the castellany were the lion of Flanders with a green cross.
