Zeil received city rights in the early 14<sup>th</sup> century from the Bishop of Bamberg. Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on January 10, 1994.
Zeil received city rights in the early 14th century from the Bishop of Bamberg. As with several other towns in the State of Bamberg, the city used the lion of Bamberg as its arms. To differentiate the arms with those of Bamberg, a fish hook was added to the arms. The hook is taken from the arms of Bishop Lamprecht von Brunn (1347-1399), who founded the city.
