Origin/meaning

The arms of Nikolsdorf show St. Nicholas of Oláh, archbishop of Gran (now Esztergom, Hungary) who owned a large part of the area during the 16th century. He had a village constructed according to an overall plan that was named "Nikolausdorf" after him, the name gradually changing to "Nikolsdorf" in the course of time. The area was also sometimes named Bernhardstal.
