Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1956.

The arms are based on the arms of the medieval Lords of Westerstetten. From the late 19th century until 1956 the municipality used a seal with the colours of the upper half reversed. This was done to avoid confusion with the family arms. However, this resulted in a possible confusion with the arms of Schechingen. The arms of Schechingen were also derived form the family arms. As the family was extinct for a long time already, the State Archives proposed to use the family arms in 1956.
