Wertinge.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on January 26, 1962.

The upper part shows the arms of the Princes of Hohenstaufen, the oldest known rulers in the district. They ruled the whole district until 1268. The diamonds in the middle bar are the arms of the Wittelsbach dynasty, Dukes and Kings of Bayern, and successors of the Hohenstaufen family. The lower part shows the arms of the diocese and State of Augsburg, as the Bishops of Augsburg also had several possessions in the district.
