Origin/meaning

The village Mörfelden-Gundhofen was named Walldorf in 1715 when a group of Italian refugees settled in the village.
The oldest known use of arms dates from the early 19th century, when the Mayor's chain showed a shield with an oak tree, with two flails and the letter W. The oak tree symbolises the forests (especially the imperial forest Dreieich), the flails agriculture, whereas the W is the town's initial. The present arms, in which the W is removed, were granted in 1927.
