The design showed a Moor's head in the upper half and the letters W and M in the lower half. For some reason the application procedure took a long time, and the Moor's head was politically unacceptable at the time. The head thus was replaced by the blue lion of the Counts of Veldenz. The village, however, was never a possession of the Counts of Veldenz, but of the Counts of Homburg.
