The arms were according to the city in 1835 granted by Leopold Wilhelm Archduke of Austria and Prince-Bishop of Passau in 1637, but there is no historical proof for this. The oldest seal dates form the late 17<sup>th</sup> century and already shows these arms, so it may be likely that the arms were granted around 1637. The arms are canting, showing a church (Kirche) and a tree (for Wald, forest).
