VISAGINAS

County : Utena

Arms of Visaginas

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Visaginas was founded in 1975 as Snieckus, a village for workers in the Ignalina atomic power plant on the shores of Lake Visaginas. Antanas Snieckus was the first secretary of the Lithuanian Communist Party.

In 1995 the town was renamed and received city rights. The new arms were designed with a symbol for caution and vigilance, as a symbol for the power plant. A crane was chosen as a suitable animal for this.

The arms were officially granted on July 26, 1996.
