Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 24, 1967.

The arms are based on a seal from 1550. The origin of the image of the St. Mary is not known. The lion is the lion of the Dukes of Jülich, who ruled the area for many centuries.

Literature: Nagel, R. : Rheinisches Wappenbuch, Köln, 1986.
