Official blazon

Escudo de azul, duas pás de forno de pão, de ouro, passadas em aspa, acompanhadas em chefe de uma estrela de cinco raios de ouro, em contra-chefe de uma mó de moinho de prata, à dextra de uma espiga de trigo de ouro e à sinistra de uma espiga de arroz de prata, em ponta, cinco faixetas ondadas de prata e azul. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco, com a legenda a negro, em maiúsculas : “ UL “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 29, 1993.

The arms show as a main charge two tools used to shovel bread into an oven. Ul is known for its special type of quality bread. The wheat-ear and the rice are symbols for the local crops and the agricultural character.
The mill wheel symbolises the former mills in the parish. The base symbolises the Ul river. The star is sthe symbol of the local patron saint, St. Mary (Nossa Senhora da Assunção).
