Origin/meaning

Tatranské Zruby and Nový Smokovec are part of the historical municipality of Veľký Slavkov. The seal of this municipality showed the local patron saint, St. Andrew. Thus for both villages a quartered shield, symbolising the cross of St. Andrew was chosen. As Tatranské Zruby was founded as a sanatorium for the army, two swords were placed on the cross.
