Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on September 30, 2008.

The arms of the city (German name Striegau) show the two local patron saints, St. Peter (with key) and St. Paul (with sword). The two saints already appeared on the oldest seal of the city, known since 1309. Since a seal from 1407 they appear behind a city wall. Smaller seals only showed their symbols, a crossed key and sword. Only in the 19th century the composition was placed in a shield. The basic composition thus did not change since, but the colours varied widely during the years.
