Origin/meaning

The arms were already used on the oldest seal of the city, dating from the early 13th century. The arms are a combination of the bull's head, taken from the arms of Pribislaw II von Parchim, the founder of the city around 1250, and a canting star (Stern). The arms only changed slightly during the centuries.
