German heraldry:

Selected collector's items from Germany:

STADTALLENDORF (Until 1977 Stadt Allendorf )

State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Marburg-Biedenkopf
Additions : 1971 Erksdorf, Hatzbach, Schweinsberg; 1974 Niederklein, Wolferode

Wappen von Stadtallendorf

Official blazon

In Blau vorne ein nach links gewendeter goldener, rot bewehrter Bär, hinten ein neunmal von silber und rot geteilter, golden bewehrter Löwe, im Schildhaupt gemeinsam ein silbernes Rad zwischen sich haltend.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1955.

The bear in the arms is derived from the 18th century seal of the town. The town at the time was named Allendorf im Bärenschiessen, and the seal showed a canting bear.
The striped lion is the lion of Hessen, the wheel is derived from the arms of the State of Mainz. The town historically belonged many centuries to Mainz, later to Hessen.
