SPRENDLINGEN

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Mainz-Bingen (until 1969 Bingen)
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandsgemeinde Sprendlingen-Gensingen

Wappen von Sprendlingen (Rheinhessen)/Arms (crest) of Sprendlingen (Rheinhessen)
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The present arms are based on the oldest known seal, which dates from the late 15th century. The chequered bar is the arms of the Counts of Sponheim, who ruled the town for many centuries. The arms of the counts were not altered after the town became a possession of Baden in 1707. The stars are added to distinguish the arms of the town from the family. The meaning of the stars is not known, they may be of local or religious origin.

In the beginning of the 20th century the arms were shown in different colours, see below.
