Origin/meaning

All three seals of the town, known from 1664 until the early 19th century, show the above arms with the sun and grapes. The grapes symbolise the importance of viticulture in the area. The sun is a canting element (from Sonnenhausen, or sun-house). In the 19th and 20th century the arms were continued. The colours were added in the 19th century. Compare also the arms of Winterhausen.
