Origin/meaning

The arms are officially granted on ??

The bends are the arms of the Countsof Neuwied, the lion's head is taken from the arms of Nassau. Historically the area belonged to (Neu)Wied (1615-1806) and Nassau (1806-1866). The oak leaves refer to the Westerwald region.

Wappen von Selters (Westerwald)

The previous arms are based on the oldest known seal of the village, which dates from 1732.

It probably symbolises the importance at the time of sheep-rearing. On the shield was placed a helmet, with a peacock as a crest. This peacock was the crest of the Counts of Wied, to which the village belonged since 1651.
