Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

Seesen received city rights in 1428 from Duke Otto von Braunschweig-Lüneburg. The oldest seal is slightly older, dating from the early 15th century. The seal already shows the lion from the arms of the Dukes of Braunschweig, with a canting water-lily (Seerose) leaf. All later seals and images show the same composition, even though the shape of both the lion and the leaf differ considerably during the centuries.
