Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 28, 1976.

The main colours of the field, blue/silver and gold/red, are the colours of the former territories to which the municipality belonged; Nassau-Saarbrücken and Lothringen (Lorraine).

The oak branch represents the village Hülzweiler, as it is derived from Holzweiler, Holz is wood. The branch also symbolises the woods in the municipality.

The miner's tools represent the mining in the municipality since 250 years. The water mill wheel is taken from the old arms of Elm, and symbolises the more than 14 water mills that existed in the municipality. The cross represents the Waldgassen Abbey, which historically had many possessions in the area.

The wavy bar is a canting element, Bach means stream.

The previous arms were granted on December 19, 1962 and show only the divided shield and the wavy bar.
