SCHWABACH (SC)

State : Bayern

Schwabac.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on October 14, 1960.

The upper part shows the arms of the Markgraves of Nürnberg, from the Hohenzollern dynasty. They ruled the largest part of the district for many centuries. The crosier is taken as a symbol for the Eichstätt Abbey, which also had several possessions in the district. The hops are shown as a, rather unusual, symbol for the agriculture in the area.

Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
