Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on

The oldest seal of the city is known since 1569, but it probably dates from the middle of the 15th century. It already shows the canting key (Schlüssel) taken from the Schlüsselberg family, who ruled the city until 1347. The stars appeared on an image in the local church from the 15th century and one century later they also appear on the seals. The colours are known since 1819.
