"Gedeeld, rechts in keel een dubbel slangenkopkruis van zilver met een hartschild van zilver, beladen met 3 koeken van keel, geplaatst 2 en 1; links in azuur de H. Eligius met een nimbus van goud, mijter en bisschoppelijk gewaad van zilver, het aangezicht en handen van natuurlijke kleur, houdend in de rechterhand een hamer van sabel, in de linker een staf van sabel met kromming van zilver."
Oorsprong/verklaring
Het wapen is een combinatie van het wapen van de familie Van Huyn van Amstenrade en de patroonheilige. Vergelijk ook Amstenrade, Bingelrade, Jabeek, Oirsbeek e.a.
De eerste vermelding van Schinveld is in 1180 in een stuk van Philips van Heinsberg, aartsbisschop van Keulen.
Schinveld vormde geen eigen heerlijkheid, maar was onderdeel van Brunssum. Kerkelijk werd het dorp in 1579 afgesplitst van Gangelt. De kerkpatroon is de H. Eligius. In 1796 werd de parochie door de Fransen afgesplitst als afzonderlijke gemeente. De heerlijkheid Brunssum behoorde sinds 1610 aan Huyn van Amstenrade.
Aparte zegels van Schinveld zijn niet bekend.
