Wappen von Schöppenstedt/Arms (crest) of Schöppenstedt

"Wappen von Schöppenstedt">

Origin/meaning

The oldest known seal of the city dates from 1419 and shows a small ship, which is a canting element (the name is derived from Schiffenstedt, or ship's place), between two small fish. In the 15th century the local seals show the above arms, showing the ship, but with the addition of the lion of the Dukes of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, who ruled the area at the time. The two small fish were removed. Ever since the composition has remained the same, but the size and shape of the figures has changed considerably.
