Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 20, 1876.

Wappen von Sankt Johann

The small arms from 1876

Sankt Johann became a separate city in 1859 and from 1859-1876 only a red rose was used as arms. The origin of the rose is not known, but was used as the symbol for the city since 1456.
