ROUGÉ

Département : Loire-Atlantique

Blason de Rougé
Official blazon
French De gueules à la croix pattée et alésée d'or.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the arms of the Counts of Rougé. The Lords of Rougé adopted a silver cross on red in the 13th century, as a symbol for the three members of the family who participated in the crusades. In the 19th century the city adopted the cross, but changed the colour to distinguish the arms from those of the family.
