Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the arms of the Counts of Rougé. The Lords of Rougé adopted a silver cross on red in the 13^th century, as a symbol for the three members of the family who participated in the crusades. In the 19^th century the city adopted the cross, but changed the colour to distinguish the arms from those of the family.
