Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 20, 1999.

The (protected) orchid refers to the Kyffhäuser nature reserve in the municipality with its rich plant life. The water mill wheel refers to the formerly many mills in the Kleine Wipper river. The base refers to a cave, discovered in 1865 in the local hills, which became known as the Barbarossa-cave, named after the medieval Emperor Barbarossa. This is symbolised by the imperial crown in black.
