Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The composition of the tower and the lion already appears on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from the 14th century. The lion is most likely the lion of Bohemia, as the city received city rights in 1367 from the Kings of Bohemia. Until 1818 the arms remained the same, but in 1818 the lion was removed. On May 21, 1836 the old arms were restored and granted by King Ludwig I of Bayern.
