Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 8, 1978.

Onrus River is a tiny coastal hamlet in the western Cape province of South Africa. This is symbolised by the upper part and the blue colour.

The fish refers to angling in the river (or sea) that forms a lagoon/estuary and runs into the ocean. The rising sun symbolises the wonderful sunny climate in the country.

The crest shows a crossed black anchor, an old Christian symbol of hope, and also a symbol of shipping. The 3 pronged fork refers to Neptune ruling of the ocean.

The motto means: A pleasant dwelling place or abode for us all.
