Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted on October 10, 1972 and officially granted on August 20, 1973.

The arms are those of the Counts of Aberdar-Obernzenn. The town belonged historically to the counts and used their arms on its seals at least since the 18^th century. The chief shows the black cross of the Teutonic Order.

Until 1972 the town only used the lindenbranch, see image below.
