Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted in 1907.

The bear in the arms is the symbol of St.Gall, the local patron saint. The whole area was granted to the St. Gallen Abbey (now in Switzerland) in 888, and the local church was devoted to the patron saint of the Abbey. Later the area became part of the County Fürstenberg-Stühlingen and the bordure is taken from the arms of the Counts of Fürstenberg. The arms were proposed in 1907 by the State Archives of Baden and accepted by the municipality.
