Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 17, 1967.

The arms show the arms of the Lords of Eppstein, with in the upper part the canting Moor's heads for Ober- and Niedermörlen, and in the lower part the wheel of mainzMainz. The Lords of Eppingen owned both villages and the seals of the 16th and 17th centuries of both villages are identical, the arms of Eppstein and a small Moor's head. In a seal from 1571 the wheel of Mainz, to which the area at that time belonged, was seen below a shield with only a Moor's head. All later seals combined the wheel and the head.

The present arms were devised in the late 1960's and combine the old seals with the wheel of Mainz.

In 1956 the following arms were proposed, but not adopted:
