Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 29, 1936.

The arms are based on the arms of the Lords of Horhusen, who from the 11th until the 16th century owned the local castle and estate.

The previous arms were granted on ?? -??-1911.

As no historical arms or seals were known, Niedermarsberg received in 1911 the arms of Hessen-Darmstadt, in silver a red lion. Niedermarsberg belonged to Hessen-Darmstadt from 1802 until 1815 and the only seal of the town dates from that time. These arms were used until 1936.
