The municipality of Nieby consists of the four villages of Nieby, Falshöft, Nieby-Westerfeld and Beveroe. 85% of the municipality is a protected natural area. The four seagulls symbolise the four villages as well as the geographical location near the sea. The blue colour also symbolises the presence of the sea. The owl represents the protected natural area. The base shows a yellow point, symbolising the Geltinger Birk, a sandy region near the sea. The blue cross symbolises the water mill 'Charlotte', used for reclaiming the land.
