German Unter einem goldenen Schildhaupt, darin ein rot bewehrter, schwarzer Adler, gespalten: vorne in Rot ein sechsspeichiges silbernes Rad (Mainzer Rad), hinten in Schwarz ein rot gekrönter und rot bewehrter goldener Löwe (Pfälzer Löwe).

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 6, 1970.

The arms combine symbols from the two older arms, and show the three main historical rulers in the area, the Imperial eagle, the wheel of the State of Mainz and the lion of the Pfalz.
