Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1968 and confirmed on March 15, 1973.

The arms show in the right half the lion of the Pfalz. The largest part of the district historically belonged to the Pfalz. The black lion in the left part is the lion of the State of Salzburg. The Bishops of Salzburg (now in Austria) also held large possessions in the district, especially around the city of Mühldorf.
