Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1964 and are based on the seals of Lissberg from the 15th and 17th century. These seals showed the cross and star. The origin of the cross is not known, the star is most likely taken from the arms of the Counts of Ziegenhain, who at the time ruled the village (city rights were granted in 1605 by the Counts of Hessen-Darmstadt). The escutcheon shows the arms of the Lords of Lissberg, who lived in the local castle and ruled the village from 1222-1396 as vassals of the Counts of Ziegenhain.

The two images below show the arms as they were published in the Kaffee Hag albums (left) and in the Hessisches Wappenbuch:

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes; Hessisches Wappenbuch, 1956; Hupp, O. : Deutsche Ortswappen, 1928-38
