Origin/meaning

The arms show the castle of the Counts of Hessen-Darmstadt in the town. The castle first appears on the seals of the town in 1667. The castle itself was built in the 13th century and rebuilt in 1575 by Count Georg I. The arms were redrawn and officially granted in 1929.
