Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 25, 1993.

The lamb refers to the longtime tradition of the trade in lambskins as well as the textile industries in the town. The upper left quarter shows a leaf, curling around a stick. This symbolises the symbol of Mercury, God of Trade, as the ity was a well known trading centre for textiles (wool and linen) and mustard. The plant thus symbolises a flax and a mustard plant. Th ebase shows an oak leaf and acorn, for the Eichsfeld region.

The base refers to the source of the Leine river.

Until 1993 the city used the arms below, designed in the 1950s.
These arms symbolise the textile and othe industries and the source of the Leine river.
