Arms (crest) of Kelowna

Official blazon

Arms : Vert issuant from barry wavy in base Azure and Argent three piles Argent, in chief two apples Or.
Crest: In front of an apple tree fructed a cross-cut saw proper.
Supporters: Dexter a grizzly bear, sinister a sea-horse, both proper.
Motto: FRUITFUL IN UNITY

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 3, 2001.

The wavy base in these arms represents Lake Okanagan, the piles represent the mountains of the area, and the apples represent the orchards of the city. The bear as the dexter supporter is inspired by the name of the town (which is a corruption of a native word for grizzly bear), and the sea-horse represents Ogopogo, the legendary creature which lives in Lake Okanagan. The crest shows an apple tree (again, the orchards), and the motto reads, "Fruitful in Unity" (again, an apple reference).
