The arms were officially granted on May 4, 2006.

The arms are canting: one of meanings of word "kapcius" in Lithuanian is "landmark". The silver field of arms symbolizes the abundance of lakes in the area, and the red colour of landmark symbolizes blood spilled for freedom.
