Official blazon
Sinisessä kentässä alaisesta aaltokoroisesta hopeahirrestä nouseva kultainen kaksitorninen linna, jonka ikkuna- ja oviaukot punaiset.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 30, 1956.
The arms show the fortress that was built on an island in the local river in the 17th century. The oldest seal of the city from 1660 already shows the fortress in a river. On a later seal the design is different and shows a castle, but not clearly on an island. The current arms are based on the latter seal

In the mid 19th century B. Kene designed arms based on the later seal, with in the upper right corner the provincial arms. These were never adopted.
