Official blazon
In silber auf grünem Berg stehend ein geharnischter Ritter, in den linken Hand einen blauen Schild mit gekröntem goldenem Löwen, in der Rechten das aus der gegürteten Scheide gezogene und geschulterte Schwert haltend; der Helm mit grünen Pfauenwedel und Rechenbalken.
Origin/meaning
The arms are known since the early 14th century and have not changed since. The arms show a knight in full armour, but its meaning is not known.
The knight holds a shield with the arms of the Counts of Schwarzburg, who ruled the city from the 12th century until 1918.
