Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1968 and confirmed in 1974.

The arms show three lightning bolts with a key and two hammers. The lightning bolts symbolise the hydro-electricity which is produced in the municipality. The key is taken from the arms of Luleå, to which the village belonged until 1673. The hammers are typical hammers of the Sami people (Lapps) and are symbols for culture and sources of income.
