Official blazon

Kilpi kahdesti lohkoinen, ylempänä vallikoro, alempana aaltokoro; kentät punainen, hopeinen ja musta.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 19, 1957.

The colours red and black are the colours of Karelia region. The silver bends symbolises the river Pielisjoki, which flows through the town. The silver-red division symbolises a guarded border and emphasises the towns border position. These arms were based on the arms granted in 1850 and 1923.
