Arms (crest) of Huddersfield

Official blazon

Arms : Or, on a chevron between three rams passant sable, as many towers argent.
Crest : On a wreath of the colours, A ram's head couped argent armed Or, gorged with a collar sable, holding in the mouth a sprig of the cotton-tree, slipped and fructed, proper.
Motto: Juvat impigros Deus - God defends the diligent

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 12, 1868.

The arms are based on the arms of the Ramsden family, who held the Manor of Huddersfield since the reign of Queen Elisabeth I and who played a major role in the development of the city.
