HOTTELN

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Hildesheim
Incorporated into : 1974 Sarstedt

Wappen von Hotteln/Arms (crest) of Hotteln
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms show a kind of spade (German : Scheffel), which was used to measure the amount of grain. The symbol is taken from the arms of the late medieval Lords von Hottenem, who ruled the village in the 15th century. In 1484 Conrad von Hottenem seals with this seal as local sherrif for the Bishop of Hildesheim. Why this tool was chosen is not known.

The arms were adopted by the village as a general symbol for the agricultural character of the village. The green and gold colours indicate the green fields and golden wheat.
