Escudo esquartelado, tendo no primeiro quartel em campo de prata as quinas de Portugal; no segundo de campo azul o busto de prata de Sua Majestade Imperial o Senhor Dom Pedro IV e no contra-chefe uma coroa e um ceptro de ouro; no terceiro em campo azul um livro de prata tendo em letras azuis escrito a data de 29 de Abril 1826; e no quarto campo de púrpura, um castelo de prata e pousado sobre ele um açor também de prata; orla azul com a legenda em letras de ouro " D. LUIZ I º À MUITO LEAL CIDADE DA HORTA ". Coroa ducal e por timbre um braço de prata armado duma espada do mesmo metal.
