Origin/meaning
The soldier represents Fredriksten Fortress, the fortress which defended Norway during the Great Northern War (1700-1721). The text "Gud med oss", translates to "God [is] with us". It's been redesigned several times since 1665, but the soldiers on top of the mountain where Fredriksten is situated has always been the same.
